The Yau Mathematical Sciences and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory Alliance was established at Tsinghua University on October 11. The initiative aims to advance the integration of AI and mathematics by focusing on specialized large models, AI-assisted formal proofs, and explainable artificial intelligence.

The alliance brings together over 1,000 mathematicians and researchers. Key participating institutions include Tsinghua University's Qiuzhen College, the Yau Mathematical Sciences Center, the Beijing Yanqi Lake Institute of Applied Mathematics, and the Shanghai Institute for Mathematics and Interdisciplinary Sciences, among others.

The organization has unveiled more than 10 key research directions and achievements. These projects span fields such as geometry, quantum computing, and life sciences, addressing complex problems like the degenerate Arnold conjecture and the boundedness of minimal modifications.

In a recent study on 7-dimensional homotopy spheres, AI was utilized to assist in exploring proof strategies and simplifying calculations. Computational algebra systems were employed to verify identities and generate reproducible certificates, while mathematicians handled the conceptualization and final proof.
