President Donald Trump has appointed Jay Clayton, the current US director of national intelligence, to lead the newly established Super Intelligence Force (SIF). Clayton will report directly to the president and Chief of Staff Susie Wiles.
The SIF is tasked with coordinating federal government efforts to maintain American leadership in the field of super intelligence. The initiative follows earlier reports regarding the creation of an AI-focused agency modeled after the Space Force.
Clayton will be joined by a leadership team including Federal Trade Commission chairman Andrew Ferguson and Office of Personnel Management director Scott Kupor. Emil Michael, the under Secretary of War for Research and Engineering, will also serve in the unit.
Clayton previously led the Securities and Exchange Commission during Trump's first term and served as interim US Attorney for the Southern District of New York. Reports indicate he is expected to retain his role as director of national intelligence.
