Donald Trump announced plans to establish an AI Force, a new government body modeled after the existing Space Force. The initiative aims to support the artificial intelligence industry while ensuring it remains unhindered by excessive regulation. Trump stated that existing civil and criminal laws are sufficient to address potential wrongdoing within the sector.

The former president intends to appoint an AI czar to lead this effort, though no specific candidate, budget, or organizational structure has been disclosed. Trump specified that the primary requirement for the role is a high IQ. The position has remained vacant since March, following the departure of David Sacks, who previously held the White House AI and crypto portfolio.

Trump dismissed concerns regarding the risks of artificial intelligence, labeling the backlash against the technology as a hoax. He claimed that AI could eventually contribute up to 25% of the US gross domestic product. He also asserted that the United States currently maintains a lead over China in the global race to develop advanced artificial intelligence technologies.

Despite Trump's stance, several researchers from major AI labs have expressed significant concerns. Marcus Williams from OpenAI’s safety team estimated a 70% probability of human extinction within three years without regulation. Similar warnings have been issued by former staff from Google DeepMind and researchers at Anthropic regarding the potential dangers of AGI development.
