TP-Link System Inc. has signed a letter of intent with the US-based electronics manufacturer Key Tronic. The companies plan to establish a router assembly line in Corinth, Mississippi.

The partnership aims to produce Wi-Fi 8 home networking equipment as the initial product line. The parties anticipate starting assembly operations as early as 2027, pending regulatory approval from US authorities.

This move follows new Federal Communications Commission (FCC) restrictions on consumer routers manufactured outside the United States. These rules require foreign-made devices to obtain specific approval from the Department of Defense or the Department of Homeland Security to receive FCC certification.

By shifting assembly to a domestic facility, TP-Link intends to bypass the current regulatory hurdles. The company is awaiting final approval from the FCC before it can proceed with commercial sales of the locally assembled units.
