Toyota plans to bring between 200 and 250 units of the new GR GT supercar to the US market. Although the vehicle has not yet reached production, the company reports that all planned units are already spoken for by interested buyers. The manufacturer has not yet begun accepting formal deposits for the vehicle.
The GR GT features a hybrid powertrain centered on a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine paired with an electric motor and an eight-speed transaxle. Preliminary performance specifications indicate an output of 640 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque, with power delivered exclusively to the rear wheels.
Engineers developed the road-legal GR GT alongside the GR GT3 race car, sharing aerodynamic and structural design elements. Both prototypes were recently spotted testing together at the Laguna Seca circuit. The company positions the GR GT as a successor to the Lexus LFA.
The expected price for the road-going model starts at over $225 000. Toyota executives have stated a preference for selling the vehicles to owners who intend to drive them on tracks, rather than to collectors or short-term resellers.
