Iveco and Toyota are partnering to develop the S-eWay Fuel Cell heavy-duty truck. This project is part of the EU-funded EMPOWER research initiative, which focuses on testing fuel cell technology under real-world conditions to improve performance, efficiency, and lifespan.

Toyota will provide its third-generation fuel cell system, delivering a total output of 300 kW. Iveco is responsible for the vehicle's development, integration, and validation. The truck is designed to achieve a range exceeding 900 kilometers, with a target lifespan of over 25,000 operating hours.

The new model features a simplified architecture and an optimized energy management system, requiring only half the battery capacity of the previous generation. The vehicle weight has been reduced, and energy efficiency has been improved compared to the earlier H2Haul project trucks.

Validation and testing are set to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026. Public road tests are scheduled for the first half of 2027 to gather data for future industrialization. This collaboration follows Toyota's recent agreement with Scania to equip 40 trucks with its 300-kW system.
