TMH-Electrotech, a subsidiary of TMH-Energy Solutions, has submitted the DTA-380A traction motor for certification testing. This unit is designed for Russia's first hydrogen-powered passenger train. The motor delivers 380 kW, equivalent to 516 horsepower, and utilizes frequency control to convert electrical energy from fuel cells into mechanical power for the wheelsets.
The manufacturer has completed technical preparations for mass production and produced 10 prototype motors. Eight of these units have been delivered to the Tver Carriage Works for assembly into the pilot train. The project is part of a 2019 agreement involving Russian Railways, TMH, Rosatom, and the Sakhalin Region government.
The planned three-car train features a range of up to 435 km on hydrogen fuel, with an additional 40 km provided by onboard batteries. Depending on the specific configuration, the train's passenger capacity will range from 551 to 875 people.
