The electric vehicle industry in North America currently focuses on developing electric pickup trucks and SUVs. However, many of these projects remain in the early stages, with startups like Slate and TELO still working to prove their viability.
Globally, small-displacement motorcycles with 125cc combustion engines serve as the primary mode of transportation for hundreds of millions of people. These vehicles are used for commuting, delivery, and family transport, demonstrating high efficiency and utility.
Modern electric motorcycles equipped with 4–6 kWh batteries can match the performance of 125cc gasoline bikes. These electric models offer lower maintenance and operating costs, with electricity expenses for 10 000 km of travel estimated at approximately $160.
The North American market for electric two-wheelers has largely split between low-power e-bikes and premium electric motorcycles priced between $15 000 and $25 000. Practical, mid-range options are currently limited, though models like the Ryvid Anthem and LiveWire S4 Honcho indicate a shift toward more accessible designs.
Charging small electric motorcycles does not require specialized infrastructure. A 4–5 kWh battery can be charged overnight using a standard household outlet, and swappable battery networks like Gogoro and Vammo offer additional convenience for users.
