The Securities and Exchange Commission of Thailand has established a regulatory framework for spot crypto ETFs, which became effective on October 16, 2026. Despite interest from several asset managers who have engaged in consultations, the regulator has yet to receive any formal applications for product launches.

The new rules allow licensed asset management companies to create passive ETFs tracking single assets like Bitcoin or Ether. Funds are required to maintain at least 80% average annual net exposure to the underlying asset. Trading is restricted to the Stock Exchange of Thailand, and issuers must utilize SEC-approved digital asset custodians.

The framework introduces measures to mitigate risk, including a ban on margin loans and a requirement for investors to complete risk education. Additionally, Thai mutual and private funds are now permitted to invest in these domestic crypto ETFs, provided they remain within their existing investment limits.

The SEC has not confirmed a timeline for the first potential launch or disclosed the names of prospective issuers. Given the recent effective date of the regulations, it remains uncertain whether any crypto ETFs will reach the market before the end of 2026.
