Thailand's Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has confirmed that multiple asset management firms have initiated consultations regarding the launch of spot cryptocurrency ETFs. Despite this interest, the regulator stated that no formal applications for such financial products have been submitted to date.

The new regulatory framework for spot crypto ETFs in Thailand became effective on Friday. These rules permit local asset managers to establish funds tracking spot Bitcoin and Ether. The SEC noted that the timeline for potential approvals remains uncertain, as it depends on the readiness of applicants and compliance with investor protection standards.

Prior to these new regulations, Thai investors gained exposure to Bitcoin through funds linked to international ETFs. ONE Asset Management secured approval for a Bitcoin ETF-linked fund in 2024, followed by MFC Asset Management, which launched a fund investing in the BlackRock iShares Bitcoin Trust.
