Tesla is preparing to release the FSD v14 Lite update for older Model S and Model X vehicles equipped with Hardware 3 (HW3) computers. Ashok Elluswamy, head of Tesla AI, confirmed during the recent Cybercab event in Austin that the rollout was originally scheduled to begin a few days ago, indicating an imminent release.
The FSD v14 Lite version is a streamlined iteration of the main v14 architecture. Engineers compressed the neural network models to fit the hardware constraints of the HW3 platform, which possesses approximately 15% of the memory bandwidth found in the newer HW4 chips.
While Model 3 and Model Y vehicles with HW3 hardware have already received the update, Model S and Model X owners have faced a longer wait. The rollout of v14 Lite began in June for select test users and later expanded to broader public releases, including international markets like South Korea.
Despite these updates, Tesla has confirmed that HW3 vehicles will not support unsupervised autonomous driving or the upcoming FSD v15 software. For now, v14 Lite represents the final major capability upgrade for the HW3 generation until potential hardware retrofits are provided.
