Xpeng has commenced small-batch production of solid-state batteries specifically engineered for its Iron humanoid robot. While the battery production is underway, the robot itself is currently in the pre-production stage, with mass manufacturing scheduled to begin by the end of 2026.
Vice president Gu Jie stated that the batteries feature a high-energy-density design tailored for the robot's internal space constraints. The units incorporate safety measures to prevent thermal runaway and have passed impact and nail penetration testing. The company has not confirmed if these batteries utilize the all-solid-state technology originally announced in 2025.
Reports suggest a shift toward solid-liquid hybrid batteries due to development timelines. Xpeng has already established an automated production line for the Iron robot, which began operations on September 8. The company plans to deploy the robots in commercial settings, such as retail stores, starting in 2027 for both domestic and international markets.
