Tesla has updated its official owner manuals for Model 3, Model Y, and Cybertruck, replacing the term FSD Computer with SI Computer. This change appears across multiple sections, including those detailing navigation and climate control functions. The company now instructs owners to verify their vehicle hardware version by checking the SI Computer status in the software menu.
The rebranding follows Elon Musk's recent decision to rename SpaceXAI to SpaceXSI and Tesla AI to Tesla Super Intelligence, or Tesla SI. This shift aligns with a new US executive order requiring federal agencies to replace the terms Artificial Intelligence and AI with Super Intelligence and SI in official documentation.
Tesla is currently transitioning its hardware nomenclature, potentially renaming HW2.0, HW2.5, HW3, and AI4 to SI2.0, SI2.5, SI3, and SI4. Additionally, the upcoming AI5 chip, currently in trial production at Samsung's Texas facility, may be designated as SI5 upon release. Tesla has not yet issued a formal announcement regarding these changes.
Regarding future capabilities, Tesla confirmed that HW3 hardware cannot support unsupervised autonomous driving. The company plans to offer hardware upgrades for HW3-equipped vehicles to enable compatibility. Vice President Ashok Elluswamy stated that unsupervised FSD and access to the Robotaxi network may launch in the second quarter of 2027.
