Tesla has reached a milestone in Austin, recording approximately 438 000 driverless miles in the week ending October 18, 2026. This figure surpasses the most recent reported weekly data for Waymo, which stood at 406 000 miles in Q2 2026.

Data indicates that Tesla's unsupervised robotaxi fleet grew from 250 000 miles in the previous quarter to 3,3 million miles. This represents a weekly growth rate of approximately 20%. If this trend continues, Tesla could reach Waymo's national volume of 4 million miles per week in about 11 weeks.

By the 16th week of such growth, Tesla's weekly volume could reach 10 million miles. This level would exceed half of the combined Uber and Lyft volume in Austin, Dallas, and Houston. Currently, Waymo's national growth has slowed, with Q2 2026 sequential growth at approximately 1.6%.

Tesla's expansion faces operational challenges, including the need for charging infrastructure, maintenance scaling, and regulatory approvals for geofence expansion in Dallas and Houston. The company aims to demonstrate that the unit economics of its unsupervised vehicles can work at scale by 2027.
