Tesla has renamed its driver assistance system from Full Self-Driving (Supervised) to Tesla Assisted Driving in Europe. The change follows a demand from German Transport Minister Steffen Bilger, who labeled the previous name misleading. The system remains a driver assistance tool requiring constant human supervision.

The software currently holds a provisional EU type approval issued by the Dutch road authority RDW under Article 39 of EU Regulation 2018/858. This status has been recognized by several nations, including the Netherlands, Lithuania, Estonia, Denmark, Belgium, Slovenia, Czechia, Croatia, and Slovakia.

Tesla is seeking full EU-wide approval to avoid individual negotiations with all 27 member states. The company is pushing for a vote in the EU’s Technical Committee on Motor Vehicles, which has been postponed until December. Germany’s support is considered critical for securing the required qualified majority.

Securing Germany's backing could influence other major markets like France, Italy, and Spain. Tesla produces the Model Y at its factory in Grünheide, Germany, which is offered with the system. The company has already updated its website branding across European countries to reflect the new name.
