German police stopped a Tesla Cybertruck near the town of Vaterstatten in Bavaria. The driver, a Swedish national, was operating the vehicle on a standard class B license, which is insufficient for the truck's weight class in Germany. Authorities stated that a C1 license, required for vehicles up to 7.5 tons, is necessary to operate the Cybertruck.
The Cybertruck lacks official type approval in Germany, as it fails to meet European pedestrian protection standards. Applications for individual exemptions have been denied because the vehicle deviates significantly from local requirements. Furthermore, the truck's gross vehicle weight exceeds the 3,500 kg limit typically permitted for class B license holders.
The driver was prohibited from continuing the journey. This incident follows previous instances of Cybertrucks being seized in the UK or intercepted while being transported through Lithuania. The US Army has also previously issued warnings to service members regarding the vehicle's legal status in Germany, noting that it is generally not permitted on European roads.
