Tesla has officially confirmed its expansion into the Vietnamese market. The company has begun recruiting for five key roles in the country, including positions for a sales manager, a service manager, and a charging project developer.

The company registered Tesla Motors Vietnam LLC in Ho Chi Minh City on September 11 with a charter capital of approximately VND 77.7 billion. The business scope includes the import, wholesale, and retail of vehicles.

Tesla faces significant competition from the local automaker VinFast, which currently holds a 36% share of the total Vietnamese car market. In the first nine months of 2026, VinFast delivered 177,697 vehicles.

Infrastructure remains a challenge, as VinFast’s affiliate V-Green operates the country's primary charging network and plans to invest $380 million in 99 ultra-fast charging stations. Tesla would likely rely on imports from Giga Shanghai.

Despite market hurdles, Vietnam has extended its registration fee exemption for battery-electric vehicles until the end of 2030, a policy that covers imported electric cars.
