Tata has launched the Aeris sedan in India, with prices starting at $5,500. The vehicle is an updated version of the Tigor model, which has been in production since 2017. The car measures 3,995 mm in length and features a 2,450 mm wheelbase. It is built on an upgraded XAlpha architecture and is available with two 1.2-liter naturally-aspirated engine options: a gasoline version producing 85 hp and a CNG variant with 75 hp.
The interior includes a 10.25-inch infotainment display, a digital instrument cluster, and ventilated front seats. Safety features include six airbags as standard, with higher trims offering a 360-degree camera and Blind View Monitoring. The trunk capacity is 419 liters. Depending on the configuration, the car comes with either a five-speed manual or a five-speed automatic transmission.
To demonstrate structural integrity, Tata subjected the vehicle to a durability test where it was buried under 20 tons of gravel and stone debris. Following the test, the passenger cell remained intact, and the car was able to start and drive. The company claims this test highlights the safety of the CNG system and the overall build quality of the vehicle.
The Aeris is currently available for order in India, with the first customer deliveries set for October 11. The price range spans from $5,500 for the entry-level Smart trim to $10,200 for the flagship Accomplished version. The model competes with local rivals such as the Hyundai Aura, Honda Amaze, and Suzuki Dzire, positioning itself as a budget-friendly option in the sedan segment.
