Taco Bell has implemented Omilia voice AI technology across more than 890 drive-thru locations in 38 U.S. states. According to Yum Brands, the parent company of Taco Bell, the automation of order taking has contributed to higher employee retention rates by reducing workplace stress.
The software manages order entry, modifications, and upselling. At top-performing locations, the system processes over 90% of orders without human intervention. The company reports that sales and transaction volumes at these sites remain consistent with or exceed those of locations without the technology.
The restaurant industry faces significant labor challenges, with the Bureau of Labor Statistics reporting a 3.5% monthly quit rate in the accommodation and food services sector as of August. Training a new employee costs an average of $3,037, making staff retention a key operational priority.
Taco Bell has been collaborating with Omilia since 2023 and continues to expand its digital infrastructure. While the chain previously encountered technical issues in 2025, it has maintained its rollout strategy. The company also works with other technology providers, including Nvidia.
