Subaru China has announced a recall of 196,494 imported vehicles due to a potential safety defect. The recall affects Forester, Legacy, Outback, XV, and BRZ models manufactured between August 23, 2011, and August 25, 2016.

The issue stems from the steering spiral cable, where a guide device may cause internal wiring to wear out and break. This failure can prevent the vehicle's horn from sounding, which poses a significant safety risk in emergency situations.

The recall, filed under number S2026M0135I, will commence on December 21, 2026. It was initiated following a defect investigation launched by the State Administration for Market Regulation.

Subaru will provide free inspections for all affected vehicles. If a vehicle is found to be equipped with the faulty component, the company will replace it with an improved steering spiral cable at no cost to the owner.
