A Jaecoo J5 EV lost its front-right wheel in Central Jakarta on November 4, 2026. The incident occurred at 08:20 WIB on Jalan KH Mas Mansyur after the vehicle struck a curb and a roadside barrier. According to the manufacturer, the wheel detachment was a direct consequence of the collision rather than a mechanical defect.

The technical inspection conducted by Jaecoo confirmed damage to the front-right bumper, fender, and passenger door. The company stated that it found no evidence of a product fault. The aftersales team is currently working with the owner to coordinate necessary repairs and the replacement of damaged components.

This event follows previous quality concerns regarding the Chery Omoda 5. In Malaysia, the Road Transport Department suspended the model's Vehicle Type Approval on October 11, 2026, due to rear axle failures. Chery subsequently initiated a recall for 8,878 vehicles to inspect and replace affected parts.

Chery Chairman Yin Tongyue issued a public apology regarding quality issues in Malaysia on October 21, 2026. A prior inspection campaign for the Omoda 5 occurred in May 2024, involving 600 vehicles, where 60 units were found to have axle components affected by a miscalibrated welding tip.

Despite these concerns, the Jaecoo J5 EV remains a significant player in the Indonesian market. Data from Gaikindo indicates that the model recorded 26,635 wholesale deliveries in Indonesia from January through September 2026, positioning it as the country's top-selling battery-electric passenger vehicle.
