Stellantis has secured a patent for a system designed to quickly detach a high-voltage battery from a vehicle during emergencies. The technology targets scenarios involving overheating, physical damage, or other thermal anomalies that pose a safety risk to the vehicle and its occupants.

The system is activated via a dedicated switch, which can be triggered by the driver or emergency responders. Multiple activation points are located throughout the vehicle, including the cabin and the trunk, to ensure accessibility in various accident situations.

Upon activation, the system first disconnects the high-voltage electrical circuit. Subsequently, the mechanical fasteners, which may include specialized mounts or sliding frames, release the battery pack from the chassis.

Even after the high-voltage unit is detached, the vehicle remains mobile. A standard 12-volt battery continues to power essential systems, allowing the car to travel a short distance and move away from the hazardous area.
