A new launcher for jailbroken PlayStation 5 consoles now allows users to access their Steam libraries and install PC games directly on the hardware. The tool creates a separate PS5 application for each installed title, which appears as an individual tile on the console home screen. The system utilizes a runtime kit that manages Wine for PS5, graphics drivers, and a Windows environment.
The software is currently in the alpha stage of development. While some users report successful gameplay with titles like Portal, others have experienced crashes. The developer has confirmed compatibility with several games, including Cyberpunk 2077, Doom Eternal, and Left 4 Dead 2. Users may encounter issues such as missing mouse cursors or unresponsive menu keys.
The creator of the launcher warns that the tool is unofficial and not supported by Valve. Users assume all risks associated with its operation. This development follows Sony's announcement that it will stop producing physical game discs by January 2028, a decision that has faced significant backlash from the gaming community.
