Valve has officially ceased production of its Index VR headset as of October 14. The company is currently clearing out remaining inventory of the headsets, controllers, and accessories at a discount until supplies are exhausted.
Despite the production halt, Valve confirmed that support for existing Valve Index owners remains unchanged. The device continues to function with Steam and SteamVR, and users can still access hardware support through the official Steam customer service portal.
The Valve Index, launched in June 2019, was the company's first in-house PC VR headset. It gained recognition for its 144Hz refresh rate and precise tracking, often bundled with the game Half-Life: Alyx.
The discontinuation follows the recent launch of the Steam Frame standalone headset last month. This new device supports native VR gaming and wireless streaming from high-performance PCs, marking a shift in the company's product lineup.
