At the TechCrunch Disrupt conference, industry leaders discussed strategies for acquiring and retaining early customers. The panel included Elia Wallen, CEO of Engine, Grant Lee, CEO of Gamma, and Crystal Huang, a general partner at Google Ventures.
Grant Lee highlighted the success of Gamma’s influencer program, which helped the AI presentation software company reach a multi-billion dollar valuation. He emphasized that creators must deeply understand the product's value to effectively target specific market segments.
Elia Wallen shared that his travel startup, Engine, achieved $150 million in bookings without a social media strategy. Instead, the company relied on traditional sales tactics, including cold calling and in-person engagement at events.
Crystal Huang stressed the importance of analyzing usage data to identify recurring customers and potential brand evangelists. She noted that monitoring how users interact with a product is essential for long-term growth and retention.
