SpaceX plans to conduct up to 10,000 Starship launches annually from a single future facility, the Starbase spaceport in Louisiana. Elon Musk stated that the site is being designed to support approximately 30 launches and landings per day.
The company submitted these projections to the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as part of a broader discussion on national space infrastructure. The FAA is currently evaluating proposals for new spaceports and potential prioritization of rocket launches within US airspace.
The agency is preparing for a scenario where the total number of annual launches in the United States reaches 10,000 by 2035. SpaceX argues that current air traffic management procedures are the primary bottleneck for this growth, rather than the hardware itself.
To address these challenges, SpaceX developed a proprietary tool for coordinating airspace usage. The company reports that major US airlines are already receiving free access to this system, which aims to streamline interactions between aviation and space operators as launch frequency increases.
