Democratic leaders in Congress are preparing to launch investigations into Donald Trump’s business dealings, specifically focusing on his cryptocurrency ventures. These efforts follow the party's success in securing control of both chambers of Congress during the recent midterm elections.
Jamie Raskin, the expected head of the House Judiciary Committee, intends to examine allegations of self-dealing related to Trump’s crypto projects, as well as presidential pardons and legal agreements. Robert Garcia, slated to chair the House Oversight Committee, plans to investigate Trump’s family businesses and associates, including potential ties to billionaire allies like Elon Musk.
The planned oversight may involve the use of congressional subpoenas, requests for corporate records, and mandatory testimony under oath from administration officials and executives. These expanded powers will become available to Democratic lawmakers when the new Congress convenes in January.
Hakeem Jeffries, the incoming House Speaker, has committed to presenting a legislative agenda within 100 hours of taking office on January 3. His stated priorities include addressing tariffs, Medicaid cuts, and economic affordability, while balancing potential resistance from Trump, who has threatened to veto new legislation.
