Sony Group is shifting its semiconductor division employees back to a primarily office-based work model. Starting next month, the policy will affect approximately 8,000 staff members at Sony Semiconductor Solutions, marking a significant change in the company's operational structure.
The decision is part of a broader organizational reform aimed at accelerating the development of Physical AI. Sony intends to focus on systems capable of interacting with the physical world, believing that in-person collaboration will streamline decision-making and enhance cross-departmental communication for engineering projects.
Despite the new mandate, the company will maintain some flexibility. Remote work options remain available for employees with specific family care responsibilities, such as looking after children or other family members.
To support the transition, Sony is redesigning its office spaces. The new layout will feature more areas for collaborative and informal interaction, while still preserving quiet zones for engineers and researchers who require deep focus to complete their technical tasks.
