Solidigm, a subsidiary of SK Hynix, is seeking US government approval to supply chip-making equipment to its facility in Dalian, China. This move is presented as a condition for the company to proceed with the construction of a new semiconductor plant in upstate New York.

The Dalian plant, specifically the Mod B facility completed in 2023, requires additional equipment to boost NAND flash production. NAND memory is currently in high demand for AI infrastructure, with TrendForce analysts forecasting a price increase of 15–20% in the fourth quarter.

SK Hynix stated that the equipment installation in Dalian is being conducted with US government authorization and does not represent a capacity expansion. The company is navigating export restrictions that have been in place since October 2022, including the revocation of special exemptions in September 2025.

Solidigm is reportedly preparing for an initial public offering in 2027. Market estimates suggest the IPO could raise approximately $10 billion, potentially valuing the company at up to $100 billion. Securing these equipment supplies is considered a critical factor for the company's business strategy.
