SoftBank is currently in negotiations to invest several hundred million dollars into OpenAI. While the deal is not yet finalized, the discussions highlight the ongoing financial relationship between the two entities.
As of October 1, 2026, SoftBank has invested a total of $64.6 billion in OpenAI, securing approximately a 13% stake. This investment was built through an initial $41 billion commitment in 2025 and subsequent tranches totaling $30 billion throughout 2026.
OpenAI's post-money valuation has reached approximately $852 billion, rising from earlier rounds of roughly $300 billion. SoftBank also issued $11.1 billion in high-yield bonds to support its broader AI strategy.
Beyond equity, the companies are collaborating on the Stargate data center project. SoftBank's total AI-related commitments, spanning chips, robotics, and infrastructure, reached nearly $80 billion by late October 2026.
