Sberbank has launched a nationwide service allowing customers to receive inheritance funds entirely online. The process eliminates the need for paper certificates or physical visits to bank branches, as the entire procedure is now integrated into the SberBank Online mobile application.
The service relies on a machine-readable inheritance certificate transmitted via the state Digital Profile system. The project was developed in partnership with the Ministry of Digital Development, the Central Bank of Russia, and the Federal Notarial Chamber. Notaries remain responsible for the initial legal registration of inheritance rights.
To access the funds, users must select the 'Receive Inheritance' option in the app and consent to the transfer of their electronic certificate from the Gosuslugi portal. Once the bank verifies the document, the funds are credited to the chosen account instantly. There are no restrictions on the amount or the number of heirs.
The pilot phase of the project began in Moscow on April 20, 2026, followed by testing in the Rostov Region and Primorsky Krai. Currently, the digital profile system is used by 1.6 million Sberbank clients monthly, with a total of 38 million data transfer consents processed to date.
