Russian tourists visiting India now have access to two licensed payment applications under the UPI One World system. In addition to the existing Cheq wallet, users can now utilize the Mony application to make cashless payments at local retail outlets, hotels, and restaurants by scanning QR codes.
To activate the Mony wallet, users must download the app and complete a registration process. This requires a valid international passport, an Indian visa, and a phone number. Final activation occurs in India during a brief in-person meeting with a service representative.
Users can top up their Mony or Cheq balances directly through the SberBank Online mobile application. The process involves navigating to the payments section, selecting the transfer to India option, and entering the phone number linked to the specific digital wallet.
Both payment services are regulated by the Reserve Bank of India and licensed by the National Payments Corporation of India. Cheq is provided by Transcorp International Limited, while Mony is operated by First Information Services India Private Limited.
