German software corporation SAP has reached an agreement to acquire the Ghent-based AI startup TechWolf. The transaction is valued at hundreds of millions of dollars and marks the largest acquisition of a venture-backed software firm in the history of Belgium.

TechWolf specializes in AI-driven solutions that analyze employee skills and workforce dynamics. SAP intends to integrate the startup's technology into its broader talent and workforce management strategy to enhance its existing software offerings.

Jeroen Van Hautte, CTO and co-founder of TechWolf, highlighted the significance of the local startup ecosystem in Ghent. He described the city's flywheel effect, where experienced startup employees frequently launch new ventures or provide funding for emerging companies, as a critical factor for regional growth.

During a recent discussion, Van Hautte also addressed his relocation to San Francisco and shared his perspectives on the development of AI models, specifically comparing open-source and closed-source approaches to technology.
