Samsung is set to introduce hearing aid capabilities for its Galaxy Buds 3 Pro and Galaxy Buds 4 Pro earbuds. The company has secured regulatory approval for this feature in both South Korea and the United States, with a rollout scheduled for early 2027.
The new Hearing Check and Hearing Care tools have been certified as digital medical device software by the South Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. Earlier this year, the features also received clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Users can access these functions directly through the settings menu on a connected Galaxy smartphone. The Hearing Check tool utilizes clinical-grade pure-tone air conduction audiometry to measure the minimum sound intensity audible to each ear, categorizing results into six distinct levels.
For hearing assistance, the devices employ the NAL-NL2 fitting formula developed by the National Acoustic Laboratories of Australia. This global clinical standard allows the earbuds to calculate optimal sound amplification for specific frequency bands, targeting sounds that the user struggles to hear.
The Hearing Care feature is designed for individuals aged 18 and older who suspect they have mild to moderate hearing loss. Samsung notes that while the system provides personalized guidance and optimization, it is not a substitute for professional medical diagnosis.
