Samsung's New Zealand division launched a marketing campaign for the Galaxy Z Fold8 featuring a local real estate agent named Tim Cook. The agent, who works for Harcourts in Palmerston North, was provided with the foldable device to highlight the brand's long-standing experience in the category.
The campaign coincides with the recent release of the iPhone Duo, Apple's first foldable smartphone, which was unveiled on September 9. Samsung is using this timing to emphasize its history with foldable technology, dating back to the first Galaxy Fold in 2019, while directly targeting its competitor.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 features a 5.5-inch external display and a 7.6-inch internal screen. The device weighs 201 grams, making it the lightest model in the series to date. In comparison, the competing iPhone Duo also features a 7.6-inch internal screen but weighs 254 grams.
The marketing effort follows a leadership change at Apple, where John Ternus replaced Tim Cook as CEO on September 1. Samsung leveraged the timing of the transition to create a campaign centered on the irony of a person named Tim Cook promoting the Galaxy Z Fold8.
