Samsung has established a specialized team named AX/PI within its Device Solutions division to develop robots for semiconductor manufacturing facilities. The initiative aims to support the company's broader strategy of transitioning its chip plants toward AI-driven autonomous production by 2030.

The new team consists of personnel transferred from Samsung's existing Equipment Technology Research Institute. Initially, the robots will be deployed for equipment maintenance tasks, such as replacing repetitive manual labor currently performed by on-site engineers and outsourced staff.

The project is in its early stages, with the team currently focusing on data collection, mapping robot routes, and defining operational zones. Samsung is working on standardizing these processes before full-scale deployment within its controlled factory environments.

While Samsung already operates an RX business office under its Device Experience division for general-purpose humanoid robots, the new AX/PI team is strictly focused on internal factory automation. This effort mirrors industry trends, such as Lam Research's 2024 launch of the Dextro collaborative robot.
