Samsung is currently evaluating the performance of the upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme chip for the Galaxy S27 Ultra. During internal testing, the processor exhibited overheating issues under high loads, which led to a noticeable decline in processing speeds.
The company reported these findings to Qualcomm in September 2026, requesting improvements to the thermal management of the chip. Both parties are currently engaged in ongoing optimization and retesting efforts to address the performance concerns.
Samsung plans to assess the progress of these thermal improvements by mid-October. The final decision regarding the processor for the Galaxy S27 Ultra depends on whether Qualcomm can resolve the overheating issues.
If the issues persist, Samsung may switch to its proprietary Exynos 2700 processor. This would mark the first time in five years that an Ultra series device uses an Exynos chip, as the company has exclusively used Qualcomm processors for the line since 2023.
