Samsung Malaysia President Charles Kim recently commented on the growing competition in the foldable smartphone market. He noted that the entry of new players, including potential future competitors like Apple, validates Samsung's early commitment to the technology.

Samsung introduced its first foldable device, the Galaxy Fold, back in 2019. According to Kim, the market for these devices has evolved from a niche category to a more mainstream segment as more brands adopt the form factor, leading to increased consumer recognition.

Kim emphasized that competition serves as a primary driver for innovation and product refinement. He stated that the pressure from rival companies encourages Samsung to continuously improve its Z-series lineup with each new generation.

The executive also highlighted a shift in consumer behavior. The market focus has moved beyond the basic question of whether a phone can fold, toward understanding the specific value proposition and utility of foldable devices for daily use.
