Sam's Club has announced a proposed update to its membership terms, introducing new restrictions on the activation of secondary membership cards. Under the new policy, an individual's identity information can be used to activate secondary cards for no more than two primary members within a 365-day period.
The policy further specifies that only one secondary card can be active at any given time. If a user wishes to switch to a different primary member's card, they must first delete the existing association. Once the limit of two activations per year is reached, the user cannot activate any further secondary cards until the next 365-day cycle begins.
The company has opened a seven-day public comment period regarding these changes. If no adjustments are made, the new regulations are scheduled to take effect on October 16, 2026. These measures are intended to curb the unauthorized resale of membership cards on secondary markets, which previously allowed for unlimited activations.
