The Russian Ministry of Digital Development is currently in negotiations with Apple to enable 5G connectivity for iPhone users within the country. Minister Maksut Shadaev confirmed the ongoing discussions on September 17, noting that the activation of this feature depends on Apple's cooperation.

Currently, 5G networks are operational in 16 Russian cities, covering approximately 10 million subscribers. The Ministry plans to expand this infrastructure to an additional 50 cities by the end of 2026. While Android devices already have access to the technology, iPhone support remains restricted.

To enable 5G on Apple devices, the company must update the carrier configuration files following successful testing in local networks. Currently, Apple does not officially list 5G support for Russian operators. Meanwhile, MTS has launched 5G on the 4.9 GHz frequency using foreign equipment.
