A working group focused on AI infrastructure development has proposed easing restrictions on the use of foreign chips within state information systems and critical infrastructure. The initiative specifically targets Nvidia accelerators, which are currently restricted in favor of domestic hardware that meets specific security standards.

Under the proposed framework, organizations must obtain confirmation from the Ministry of Industry and Trade that no equivalent domestic equipment exists before purchasing foreign chips. Furthermore, the use of such hardware must be declared, and information security measures must be coordinated with the Federal Security Service (FSB).

The Ministry of Digital Development noted that the proposal requires further review by relevant agencies to ensure compliance with cybersecurity requirements. The initiative aims to address the current shortage of domestic computing power necessary for training and deploying large-scale AI models, which can require thousands of chips.
