According to a report from the hardware channel Moore's Law Is Dead, Nvidia may discontinue the GeForce RTX 5090 and the 16GB version of the RTX 5080 in the first half of January 2027. This information originates from a source at a major retailer and remains unconfirmed by Nvidia.

The final shipment of RTX 5090 units reportedly arrived at retail locations in September of this year. The last batch of 16GB RTX 5080 cards is expected by the end of October, with sales potentially continuing through the US Thanksgiving holiday period.

Internal retail systems have reportedly listed a placeholder SKU for an RTX 5080 24GB model. Previous reports from BenchLife suggested that Nvidia plans to introduce a 24GB GDDR7 variant in the first quarter of 2027 to replace the current 16GB model, though board partners have not yet received development documentation.

These claims contrast with recent statements from Nvidia senior vice president Jeff Fisher, who confirmed that the RTX 5090 remains in production despite supply chain constraints. No official announcements regarding the discontinuation or the release of a 24GB model have been made by the company.
