Developer @1usmus, known for the Hydra tool, suggested that a 12-core processor based on the Zen 6 architecture could match the multi-threaded performance of the current flagship 16-core Ryzen 9 9950X3D. This insight stems from an analysis of a Cinebench 2026 benchmark screenshot posted on the overclock forum by user UTVOL06.
The forum post featured obscured benchmark entries, which users identified as likely representing a 12-core, 24-thread configuration. @1usmus confirmed the performance proximity of the 12-core Zen 6 chip to the current flagship, though specific details regarding clock speeds, power consumption, or exact benchmark scores remain undisclosed.
Reports indicate that the Zen 6 standard core complex die (CCD) may increase from 8 cores to 12 cores. The shared L3 cache is expected to grow from 32MB to 48MB. Despite these upgrades, the die size is projected to see only a minor increase, suggesting a shift toward higher core density and improved performance efficiency.
If these specifications hold, AMD could achieve high multi-threaded performance using a single 12-core CCD. This design shift could lead to more efficient 12-core and 24-core Ryzen processors for desktop users, while offering improved thermal management and power efficiency for laptop and handheld gaming platforms.
