The first phase of testing for a new high-power generator circuit breaker has been completed in Russia. The device was developed by Rosatom Automated Control Systems (RASU) in partnership with the All-Russian Electrotechnical Institute (VEI). Previously, such equipment was not manufactured domestically, with global production limited to Siemens and ABB.

The circuit breaker is designed for installation between a generator and a step-up transformer to manage power transmission and provide protection during accidents. It is intended for use in large nuclear, thermal, and hydroelectric power plants, with a capacity sufficient to supply approximately 800,000 households.

To facilitate the testing process, engineers from VEI and Rosseti Scientific and Technical Center created new testing infrastructure and stands. The initial results confirmed the validity of the technical design choices made by the development team.

Further testing is required to finalize the project. The upcoming stages will focus on verifying the device's ability to withstand overcurrents and manage short-circuit currents, ensuring it can effectively protect critical power plant infrastructure from damage.
