Indian developer Ferrstron Powertrains has successfully road-tested a 150 kW, 400 Nm electric powertrain prototype. The system was installed in a 2.3-ton multi-utility vehicle and utilizes ferrite magnets instead of traditional rare earth materials.
The company claims its motor design achieves 98% efficiency through an axial-flux, dual-airgap architecture. Key technical features include in-coil cooling, a multi-phase flux control algorithm, and proprietary electromagnetic physics simulation technology.
The recent road test has advanced the company's core technology to Technology Readiness Level 6. Ferrstron is now focused on reaching TRL 8 and initiating production, with active discussions currently underway with global Tier 1 suppliers and OEMs.
Ferrstron is actively seeking new investment to fund these development stages. The company's product roadmap includes a range of stackable motor cartridges designed for heavy-duty trucks, buses, high-speed trains, and marine vessels.
