RavenDB has introduced Quill, a new context layer designed to integrate production-ready AI agents with existing SQL databases. The tool allows organizations to connect to their current infrastructure without the need for system migration or building custom AI stacks from scratch. This approach aims to reduce deployment times from a typical 18 to 24 months to just a few weeks.
Quill functions as a governed layer between the AI models and the source data. It allows administrators to define specific access permissions independently of the underlying database settings, ensuring security for sensitive information. The platform is model-agnostic, enabling teams to switch between different AI providers or run models on their own hardware depending on their specific requirements.
The system supports integration with communication platforms such as WhatsApp, Slack, Telegram, Discord, and web chat. It is currently compatible with PostgreSQL, MySQL, and SQL Server, with plans to expand support for additional databases. Organizations can deploy Quill either on-premises or in the cloud to comply with data residency and regulatory standards.
RavenDB, which currently serves more than 12,000 customers across 50 industries, developed Quill to address the challenges of scaling AI initiatives. According to company CEO Oren Eini, the product provides the necessary infrastructure for data pipelines, security, and semantic search, allowing engineering teams to focus on feature development rather than building foundational plumbing.
