CGI Federal, the US Defense Logistics Agency (DLA), and the University of Tennessee have launched the Quantum Pathfinder research program. The initiative aims to explore how agentic AI and quantum computing can improve warehouse efficiency and the resilience of military supply chains.
The project focuses on three key areas: dynamic management of smart warehouses, reverse logistics, and inventory distribution during infrastructure disruptions. The program is scheduled to run throughout the next fiscal year, with research activities hosted at the CGI Federal center in Knoxville.
Participants plan to address complex logistical challenges, such as rerouting supplies when ports or suppliers become unavailable. The initiative will also support the regional quantum ecosystem through the Knoxville Quantum Accelerator and the Tennessee Quantum Initiative, focusing on infrastructure and workforce development.
The DLA has previously outlined plans for quantum computing and machine learning research in its 2026 fiscal year budget documents. While the program does not involve immediate deployment of quantum systems into military infrastructure, the partners intend to share research results and benchmarks at industry events.
