Qualcomm unveiled its latest flagship mobile platforms, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, during the Snapdragon Summit 2026 held on September 22 in Hawaii. Both systems are built on a 2-nanometer process and feature custom Oryon CPU cores, Adreno graphics, and the Hexagon NPU.
The Extreme version achieves a CPU frequency exceeding 5 GHz. Compared to previous generations, the CPU performance increased by 13%, with a 37% improvement in energy efficiency and a 15% boost in system responsiveness. The new Adreno GPU delivers up to 44% higher performance and 40% better energy efficiency.
The company introduced Adreno Neural Fusion, a technology that integrates AI into the graphics rendering process to enhance visual quality without increasing the load on standard compute units. The updated Hexagon NPU is specifically designed to support on-device agentic AI capable of context-aware task execution.
The dual-platform strategy aims to provide manufacturers with more flexibility for their flagship lineups. The Extreme variant serves as the top-tier offering, while the standard version brings these technologies to a broader range of premium devices.
Major smartphone manufacturers have confirmed plans to adopt these new SoCs, including Xiaomi, Vivo, Redmi, Oppo, OnePlus, Motorola, iQOO, Honor, and Red Magic. Specific device models, launch timelines, and pricing details will be disclosed by the manufacturers at a later date.
