At the 2026 Snapdragon Summit, Qualcomm Senior Vice President Chris Patrick stated that smartphones will remain the core of personal computing for the foreseeable future. Despite the emergence of new form factors like smart glasses and rings, the smartphone will continue to serve as the central hub for connectivity and processing.

Qualcomm emphasizes that smartphones provide the necessary battery, storage, Wi-Fi, and computing power to manage other devices. Patrick noted that while the form or name of these devices might evolve over the coming years, they will maintain their position as the primary interface for personal interaction.

The company highlights a shift from the traditional app era toward an era of AI agents. Patrick explained that applications and AI agents will coexist for a long time, as agents still require services like Uber to execute specific tasks. The transition involves moving toward systems that understand user intent.

Qualcomm cited Honor as a partner demonstrating this evolution. The Honor Magic series and the Honor AI Robot Phone illustrate how devices are moving beyond simple responses to understanding user intent, making decisions, and taking actions on behalf of the user.
