Qualcomm China Chairman Meng Pu spoke at the 2026 Northeast Asia Talent Exchange and AI Industry Development Conference in Shenyang. He highlighted the growing importance of on-device AI, which complements cloud-based processing by offering real-time responses, reliability, and personalized user experiences.
The integration of AI agents is accelerating the shift toward edge computing. According to Meng, these agents will allow devices to proactively understand user intent and manage applications, moving away from traditional app-centric computing models toward a new era of ubiquitous intelligent computing.
Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon noted that the company has received requests to develop mobile platforms capable of running 100B parameter models locally by 2028. Such capabilities are expected to significantly enhance multi-agent collaboration and local model performance.
Amon anticipates that AI agents will trigger a new super-cycle for smartphone upgrades. He identified smart glasses as the most promising wearable AI category and emphasized that Qualcomm's expertise in low-power technology provides a competitive advantage for its data center operations.
